The London Choral Studio was formed in November 2001 by Robert Hamwee and Keith Fraser as a choir whose ethos is to perform vocal music to a very high standard and draw soloists from within the choir. Many of the singers have had extensive vocal and musical training, and in some cases are on the threshold of a career in musical performance.

As a group we aim to perform music from the early composers of the 15th and 16th Centuries, to the work of contemporary composers, and new commissions in the originally scored language, and in doing so striving for musical excellence.

The group consists of 5 sopranos, 5 mezzo-sopranos/altos, 5 tenors, and 5 basses, numbering 20 in total. For some works we introduce additional singers where the vocal balance needs to be changed, or where we perform works for upper or lower voices only. The group also reduces down to smaller vocal ensembles when required, such as for performing as a "Barbershop Quartet".

Each of the singers has a different musical background which adds to the diversity and flexibility of the group, but the common thread which unites us all is a love of music and performance. As a group we encourage the ambitions of the members, such as when a singer wishes to perform a solo or try out a new style of music. We also use technology as much as possible with rehearsal aids such as downloadable scores and sound files playing each part in turn.
